Padel Court Dimensions: 65.6 x 32.8 ft (20 x 10 m) and U.S. Regulations
If you plan to install a padel court in the United States, for a home, club, school or city, the size and build rules decide safety, play quality and whether you pass inspection. This guide covers the official dimensions set by the International Padel Federation (FIP), plus what changes for U.S. codes: wind, snow, seismic and accessibility.

Structure and walls
Glass walls
- Material: tempered safety glass, 0.39 in (10 mm) thick.
- U.S. standards: ANSI Z97.1 or ASTM C1048.
- Panels must be vibration-resistant and fixed securely to the frame.
Steel or aluminum frame
- Hot-dip galvanized structural steel tube.
- Must meet local building codes for wind and seismic load.
- In hurricane zones such as Florida, engineer for 140 to 160 mph winds.
Mesh fencing
- Galvanized or powder-coated steel mesh with a grid of about 2 x 2 in (5 x 5 cm) or 2 x 1.6 in (5 x 4 cm).
- Mount it flush so players do not get hurt during wall play.
Playing surface
- Turf: monofilament or fibrillated artificial turf, UV-protected and non-slip.
- Infill: sand, 80% to 90%.
- Colors: green, blue, red or black.
- Drainage: a slope of up to 1% is allowed.
- Ball rebound and grip must meet FIP guidelines.
Lighting
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Light level | 300 lux (~28 footcandles) recreational, 500+ lux (~46 footcandles) professional |
| Fixtures | 4 to 8 LED units, 200 to 400 W each |
| Pole height | 19.7 ft (6 m) or higher |
| Color temperature | 5000K to 6000K |
Covered courts
For year-round play, many U.S. owners add a cover. Plan for a free-standing or attached steel or aluminum truss, a minimum height of 26 ft (8 m) for bounce clearance, snow load design to ASCE 7-22 and integrated rainwater channels. See our court covers.
U.S. safety, accessibility and regional rules
- ADA: community courts should have at least one accessible pathway and level surface transitions.
- Florida: wind resistance and corrosion protection.
- California: seismic anchoring and fire-safe materials.
- Texas: UV resistance and stormwater drainage.
- New York and Colorado: snow load and frost-line foundation adjustments.
- Arizona: sun-resistant turf.
Common mistakes
- Wrong glass thickness.
- No wind or snow load engineering.
- DIY installation or the cheapest supplier.
- Too little buffer space for fencing and lights.
- Lighting below the required lux.
